CONSULT AND GET INFORMATION FROM EMPLOYMENT SERVICES WHEN CHOOSING AN OCCUPATION

The Federal Employment Institute and the cantonal employment services invite high school graduates and high school students, as well as their parents, to contact them in the process of choosing a profession and further education because they have information that can help them. Based on the insight into the unemployment records in the FBiH, and survey conducted through technical support to the Institute within the EU funded project “Improving Labor Market Research” it can be said that the most wanted occupations are occupations with a university degree in computer science, economist, civil engineer, IT programmer and mechanical engineer.

To adequately understand the labor market and plan of interventions within this Project, The Federal Employment Institute implemented numerous activities. Among others, they received expert’s assistance in acquiring and analyzing data, improving visibility of all Institutes and bureaus for employment. Above mentioned research provided other useful information on market trends and the needs of employers and is available on the web portal of the Institute. A particularly interesting part of the report is the Review of the number of students in secondary schools in the Federation of BiH in the school year 2020/2021 by specializations, where high school graduates can get information about the situation in schools in their local communities, and for what a large number of primary school graduates have shown interest.

The economic situation in the country burdens young people who want to study for occupations that interest them but also that are in demand in the market. It is therefore important to consult and make informed decisions. “Our recommendation to high school graduates and their parents is to consult about choosing a profession with our colleagues in the cantonal employment services, who have more precise information, and represent a link between job seekers on the one hand and employers on the other,” said Helena Lončar, Director of the Federal Employment Institute.

In the past period, numerous activities were carried out to which the Institute, together with the cantonal services, dedicated itself to continuously help young people and their parents to get the right information, despite the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Visits to schools, presentations, conversations with principals, pedagogues, publishing brochures and publications, updated Internet sites, media campaigns are just some of the common ways to reach young people with information that interests them in career counseling.
